Position Summary
The Technical Sales Manager reports to the VP of Business Development and is responsible for managing an existing book of business and prospecting and developing new business with OEM target accounts.
Customers and prospects are primarily engaged in the automotive (tier 1 and 2), construction, electronics, EV, power generation, and industrial markets across Ontario, MI, the Great Lakes Region, and the East Coast.
This role demands an energetic, self-starting individual with a hunter mentality, strong communication and presentation skills, and the ability to engage and build relationships with OEM decision-makers in sourcing, purchasing, engineering, and operations.
Primary Responsibilities
- Achieve company targets for profitable revenue growth and new business development objectives.
- Network, build relationships, and win new business with OEM customers (existing and prospective).
- Manage the entire sales cycle, including prospecting, RFQ and quoting, negotiation, PPAP, and account maintenance.
- Regularly visit key accounts to ensure customer satisfaction and maintain relationships.
- Collaborate with VP of Business Development and the marketing team to create target customer lists and lead go-to-market plans to secure new business.
- Contribute to marketing initiatives to drive brand awareness and generate leads.
- Deliver customized presentations that highlight the company's value proposition and build trust with customers.
- Build and maintain a strong new business development revenue pipeline, track project status in CRM (Dynamics 365), and provide periodic progress reports.
- Work closely with internal teams (engineering, estimating, marketing, and operations) to ensure customers have a positive experience.
- Stay current with market trends and competition and share market intelligence with the internal team to inform strategic decisions.
- Complete annual sales forecasts and provide updates throughout the year.
- Attend trade shows, supplier events, and industry gatherings to build brand awareness and relationships.
It's a remote job. Client is looking for Toronto/Detroit.
Qualifications / Skills Requirements
- Bachelor's degree highly preferred; a technical discipline is desirable.
- 3+ years of experience in technical sales, particularly selling to automotive OEMs or tier 1 and 2 suppliers.
- Proven track record of exceeding sales goals and strong sales skills.
- Prior experience and knowledge of die cutting, printing, or converting flexible materials (e.g., films, foams, fibers, non-wovens) preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high level of professionalism and ability to present technical and commercial information effectively.
- Collaborative spirit and a strong desire to succeed.
- Self-motivated with a high sense of urgency and a proactive approach.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task to meet quick turn-around customer expectations.
- Excellent presentation, project management, and negotiation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience using CRM tools (Salesforce, Dynamics, etc.) to track sales pipeline activity.
- Mechanical aptitude: ability to interpret specifications/drawings and respond to inquiries.
- Travel requirement: up to 40% within an 8-hour drive of the home office.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the printing, converting, or contract manufacturing industry.
- Engineering/technical education or relevant work experience is a plus.
