At Momentum, we are rapidly scaling our business and service offerings and are seeking a high-performing professional to be Director of Business Development. The Director of Business Development will drive Momentum’s business development and commercial goals including crafting and executing against various strategic initiatives to win new customers and grow relationships with existing customers. They will report to Momentum’s Chief Commercial Officer. This role is remote with travel required.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and execute internal and external strategies to drive commercial growth across new/existing customers, new/existing service offerings, organic/inorganic opportunities.
- Generate new customer and project leads through detailed research and creation of thoughtful customer targeting tools and retain/grow existing customer relationships.
- Work with the management team and relevant department heads to create quarterly and annual business plans/forecasting and successfully deliver on sales targets and other commercial KPIs.
- Implement and maintain rigorous KPI tracking within the Company’s CRM and other systems to regularly evaluate and report on progress.
- Conduct email outreach and cold calling to prospective customers.
- Create and maintain high-quality client presentations, summary presentations, and other marketing material.
- Maintain P&L for key customer accounts to deliver on company-wide revenue and margin targets.
- Proactively assess customer needs on an ongoing basis and lead solution development efforts to best address unmet needs.
- Schedule and coordinate attendance and customer meetings at industry conferences. Travel to attend customer meetings and industry conferences.
Key Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field and a track record of academic and professional achievement.
- Five to eight years of relevant experience in a business development or commercial operations role in the life sciences industry.
- Solid understanding of the drug discovery and development process and ability to consult our clients regarding how relevant technologies can aid their objectives.
- Strong self-initiative and persistence with a bias for action, enthusiasm for taking on new projects and operating independently in a fast-paced growth environment.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and determine priorities.
- Excellent organizational, time management and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and independently in an interdisciplinary, team-oriented, collaborative, high-performance environment.
- Ability to secure efficient turnaround of requests through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to design research studies, manage contract negotiations and to develop tailored business strategies.
- Active identification of new clients and potential collaborations through knowledge of the industry and a network of opinion leaders.
- Representation of Momentum at relevant industry and scientific conferences, meetings and symposia.
- Natural curiosity and ability to ramp up quickly in new content areas, leveraging the expertise of others.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly in breaking down complex and ambiguous problems.
- Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills and ability to adapt to new systems.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics CRM system or a similar product.
